Spotlight On… – Santa Claus
Would you briefly introduce yourself for the site’s readers?
Well, I think that this may be considered an insulting question.
What’s your racing wheel?
A pair of Fanatec Alcantara bridle with deer force feedback. Very effective. No pedals.
Which are your favorite simracing games?
Hmm. Simracing just came later on, and my interest in it started as soon as I was hired to be part of some videogames. Check them out here. Anyway, my favorites so far are Automobilistmas and I-HoRacing.
Everything that is a Ferrari. Those cars beautifully match my dress.
I had some good races in the Nordschleife – see here – but I must say that my overall favorites are the stages of the Swedish WRC rally. I like big, fat racing on ice with powerslides, handbrake drifts and all that fun stuff.
Since when are you playing simracing games?
This would imply that you want to know my age? Not your business, kid!
Which was your first racing game ever?
Let me think. It must have been a very old cellphone game with me riding a sleigh. It was maybe… Ho-ho! Nice try!
How do you prepare for a race and/or a championship?
First of all, I fully tank my sleigh with leaves and grass. I’m abundant on that since when once during a race I ran out of fuel and fell into a chimney. You know, deer are veeeeeery hungry. Then it’s time for the ballast: usually big, coloured packs. After that I’m ready to go: years of practice will get the rest of the job done.
Are you good in setupping cars? 🙂
A sleigh doesn’t need much setup, do you agree? The deer suffer of chronical underDeering, but that’s life.
Do you race in real life too?
Yes, once a year, the night before Christmas.
What is your best result in SRS?
You mean, Santa Racing Sleigh? Well, I always win!
“I practice doing cold lapping instead of hot lapping.”
What you do like and what you don’t like in SRS races?
I do like that there are a lot of bad boys in there that will not receive presents. Much less work for me. I also like those countdowns before the races, they always remind me of kids waiting for midnight to open their gifts. On the negative side, the night before Christmas I only see those stupid GT-this and F-that races scheduled. Hey, what about a deer race every now and then?
Is there a particular moment in SRS races – funny, dramatic, adrenaline-filled – that you like to remind?
Sure. Once I was late on my schedule, there were kids risking not to receive their gifts. I used all my nitros then (that means, deer farts) and was able to recover just in time.
Which are your strongest and your weakest points in racing?
Racing once a year doesn’t help much consistency, as you may easily imagine. And due to the season, I practice doing cold lapping instead of hot lapping. However, I learned a lot of useful tricks during the years. For instance, every now and then when I’m battling with opponents I let some tempting packets fall from my sleigh. You have no idea on how many racers coast and stop to gather them.
How would you define your racing style?
I’m a flying starter, and a flying racer.
In the end, would you send your greetings to the racing community?
Of course! I wish you all, your dears, families and friends a Merry Christmas – maybe some of you will receive new and blazing racing gear from me, who knows – and a Happy New Year. I hope that in 2021 we all will wear less masks and more helmets. Ho-ho, and see you on the track!
