SRS Season 2022.1 Week 6 Recap
Last recap of the first season of 2022, the one where the championships have been all decided!
MCLAREN F1 GTR – Road America 🇺🇸
Simon Speth wins at Road America, and takes the title for the 27th time in his SRS career! He almost lost the win to Jari Penttinen, who caught him on the last lap, finishing just under two tenths of a seconds behind the champion. 3rd place for Matija Rasinec, who couldn’t do nothing against Simon, losing the championship after recovering many points especially last week. 4th place for Lucas Biberacher, just 2 tenths ahead of Michal Janak. Speth wins the championship with 595 points, 11 more than Rasinec. 3rd place for Jari Penttinen with 539, 18 more than Philip Clegg in 4th. P5 for Lucas Biberacher after missing the Fuji race, finishing just 2 points ahead of Craig Gillett. The absolute beast known as Ape Terrorcarro will replace this car for the next season!
PORSCHE 911 GT AMERICA – Road America 🇺🇸
The 2nd season finale race held this week was again at Road America, and Oggi Pineas for the 1st time in his SRS career is a champion! Martin Smith won the race, with another comeback for the Canadian. After starting 5th, he overtook all the drivers in front to win the race, finishing 9 seconds ahead of James Leeder. 3rd place for the new champion, who got ahead of his championship rival Pasha Paterson. 5th place for Jeffrey Hones. Quite a stunning end to the championship indeed, with Pineas winning the title with 554 points, one more than Paterson, who was also one point ahead of Leeder! Everyone of them could blame someone for losing the championship with such a tiny margin, maybe Pasha for his incidents during the season, or James for the first “terrible” race result. 4th place in the standings for Handy Hanafiah (7th in the race), 8 points ahead of Smith. The Mini Cooper JCW Challenge will replace this championship next season!
TARK ESTONIA-25 – Portimao 🇵🇹
Craig Gillett wins his first championship! Lucas Biberacher won the race, but that wasn’t enough to beat Gillett, who ended 2nd after losing a place at the start from Philip Clegg, 3rd. P4 taken by Matija Rasinec, 1.5 seconds in front of Kevin Pruscha. Craig won the title with 575 points, 5 more than Biberacher, also thanks to the “wild card” took at Daytona. 3rd place for Rasinec, 13 points ahead of Clegg, followed by Jari Penttinen, who had a bad race after a crash on the first meters of the race. The Estonia-25 will be replaced by the European Nascar cars next season!
TATUUS FA01 – Spa-Francorchamps 🇧🇪
A non-race at Spa, how familiar! No points were awarded this time, so Handy Hanafiah is the champion! With 298 points (just 3 races were done during the season) he secured his first championship, finishing 3 points ahead of Jeffrey Jones. 3rd place for John Lynn, followed by Dan Laufer and Martin Smith.
FORD MUSTANG BOSS 429 – Watkins Glen Classic 🇺🇸
Jari Penttinen wins his 4th championship! After a season-long fight against Matija Rasinec, the Finn won the final race in front of his rival, taking the points necessary to win the championship! They’ve made a contact with just three laps to go due to the narrow layout, which didn’t change the championship results. 3rd place for Michal Janak, who on the same lap of the contact between the leader, he overtook Rico Haas for the final step of the podium. 5th place for Max Spied. Just 5 points separates Penttinen from Rasinec, with 4 versus 2 wins and viceversa for the 2nd place, absolute domination for them! 3rd place for Janak who took the 3rd place in the standings thanks to the overtake on Haas, who ended also 5 points behind. Behind them, P5 for Max Spied. Next season the Abarth 595 SS S2 will replace this Mustang!
GINETTA G55 GT4 – Nurburgring GP GT 🇩🇪
An intense race for Riley Gallardo gives him his 13th championship on SRS! Thanks to this win Gallardo wins the championship with 595 points, 34 more than Videla. 3rd place for Kevin Woodward (7th in the race), just 1 point ahead of Pineas and 3 of Russell Sobie, 6th in the race and 5th in the championship.
